The digital desktop is the desk of today. Where earlier documents and slips of paper were put manually into a folder and were arranged on piles, nowadays the computer with its individual interface has taken the main role in our organization - whether at work or in private households.
Personal ordered structures are interesting even in the analog world. Even more interesting for us is how these were translated into the digital world, how much individualism there is still possible, and how the digital desks reflect the personal nature of its user.
We were able to collect and evaluate over 400 screenshots worldwide. Of particular interest was found to differ not only the desktops in their structures, but by a personal modification of the user interface (colors and images) as well as by many private files, which in turn, allow conclusions about the owner.
Der digitale Desktop ist der Schreibtisch von heute. Wo früher Zettel und Dokumente per Hand in Ordner verpackt und auf Stapeln sortiert wurden, hat der Rechner mit seiner jeweiligen Benutzeroberfläche die Hauptrolle in der Organisationsstruktur übernommen – ob am Arbeitsplatz oder im privaten Haushalt.
Persönliche Ordnungsstrukturen sind schon in der analogen Welt interessant, noch interessanter ist für uns, wie diese in die digitale Welt übersetzt wurden, wieviel Individualismus dort noch möglich ist und wie die digitalen Schreibtische den persönlichen Charakter seines Benutzers widerspiegeln.
Insgesamt konnten wir Dank weltweiter Vernetzung über 400 Screenshots sammeln und auswerten. Als besonders interessant stellte sich heraus, dass sich die Desktops nicht nur in ihren Strukturen unterscheiden, sondern auch durch persönliche Modifikationen der Benutzeroberfläche (Farben und Bilder) sowie durch viele private Dateien, die wiederum Rückschlüsse auf den Besitzer zulassen.
